Broadcaster Louise Duffy has gushed about her husband-to-be Paul Galvin.

The Today FM star (31) became engaged to the Kerry GAA footballer (35) in 2013 and while the pair haven't set down a wedding date yet, Louise said she's happier than ever with her other half.

"I remember our first couple of dates, I just knew he was a fantastic man," she told the new issue of VIP Magazine, out now.

"So yeah, it was pretty early on that I knew it was something pretty lasting and we were going to be in it for the long haul."

"I think you just have to be best friends with somebody who has your back.

"Life is busy and you're doing different things, he's doing his thing and I'm doing mine, so you have to be there for each other, be looking out for each other. It really does boil down to being best friends through and just enjoying each other's company so much.

Duffy, who has been dating the former teacher for four years, added that she was completely shocked by his proposal.

"It was a complete surprise," she told the magazine.

"When we had once hypothetically spoken about getting married, Paul asked me: 'How would you like your proposal to be?' and I said only two things mattered - that I would like the person to ask my dad first and then to surprise me. Both of which he did!"
