The host of TV3’s Saturday and Sunday AM announced last week that she was expecting again.

Dubliner Anna told the Herald that while she had always been adamant she wanted only two children, she had recently changed her mind.

“Most people, including some of my family, were surprised at the pregnancy,” she said. “I was always very definitive about having two children.

“I come from a two-kid family and I always thought the world was made for two adults and two children. I was being very honest about what I wanted, so there was surprise that I was going back on being so definitive.”

Anna, who has two sons – James (4) and three-year-old Euan – with businessman husband Ben Ward, said she was happy to “throw a spanner into the works” with her baby news.

“I just felt like I wanted a third and wanted to add to the family,” she said.

“Euan has turned three and is potty-trained so we’re at the stage where you can leave the house without taking half of the world with you and things are getting more manageable.

“We’re starting it all over again now, but sure, it’s all part of the fun.”

Anna, who is due to give birth at the end of October, said that when it comes to morning sickness she has been lucky.

“I feel great. I’m very lucky that I have plenty of energy and no sickness so far,” she said.

“I’m well aware that some people really suffer and it can be totally debilitating, especially when you have to work, so I’ve been very lucky so far.”

With another baby boom at TV3 – Karen Koster and Aisling O’Loughlin are both on maternity leave – the Ballymount broadcaster is being “really supportive”, said Anna.

“I think it’s the age profile of the company – we’re all in that zone where we’re starting to build on a family,” she said.

“When I went into my overall boss with the news, it was all hugs and kisses. There’s a very modern approach to family in there, which is something not everyone gets.”
