Former boyband star Brian McFadden has offered some advice to ex-One Directioner Zayn Malik, warning him to stay away from “showbiz nonsense”.
Some 12 years after his own dramatic departure from Westlife, McFadden encouraged the 23-year-old singer to surround himself with people he can trust.
“I know exactly what Zayn is going through because I had similar problems,” McFadden told the Sunday People.
“Zayn needs to ignore all the showbiz nonsense and find people who he can really trust.”
Looking back on his own decision to leave Westlife, he reflected: “We had it all – money, fame, beautiful women, amazing cars – but in the end it just wasn’t making me happy.”
McFadden is currently gearing up for a new ‘Boyzlife’ tour alongside Boyzone’s Keith Duffy, which kicks off in October.
He also expressed sympathy for Zayn, who recently cancelled a solo concert after suffering an anxiety attack.
“After Westlife, I struggled with stage fright myself. For years I was fine and then, out of nowhere, it just hit me.
“I don’t know what brought it on, but I just started to feel like everyone was looking at me and it made me very uncomfortable.”
He added: “My personal life was everywhere and it felt like people were judging me.”
