'I just could not breathe' - TV3 star Aisling O'Loughlin forced to go on maternity leave early due to illness
TV3 star Aisling O’Loughlin was forced to go on maternity leave early after being struck down with a nasty chest infection, the Diary can reveal.
The presenter has battled rhinitis throughout her entire pregnancy as she juggled co-presenting Xpose with looking after two small children, Patrick (4) and two-year-old Louis.
However, Aisling (38) decided it was time to pull back completely after her consultant put her on antibiotics.
“I just couldn’t breathe properly with it, and I couldn’t really talk either so I just decided enough was enough,” she said.
“I really wasn’t well and I’m still getting over it, to be honest, so I decided to go off in the middle of last week and I’m on the mend now.
“I’m feeling fine apart from the hormonal fluctuations that come with being pregnant.”
However, Aisling said she is really looking forward to welcoming her new arrival with photographer partner Nick MacInnes.
The couple opted to learn the baby’s sex, so they’re due to greet their latest little boy on May 11 with a scheduled C-section, and Aisling is counting down the days.
“I can’t wait to meet him. It’s amazing thinking, ‘Who’s in there, what do you look like?’ You just don’t know who you’re making’,” said Aisling.
“It’s also nice to be finally on maternity leave and get some stuff done about the house and spend time with the boys before the new baby comes.”
This time around Aisling has been enjoying a lot more movement from her bump – something she didn’t have with Patrick and Louis.
“I’m loving it. It’s like having an alien inside me,” she said. “It’s been kicking away, so I think it’s a bit of a wild one already.”
The couple have been deliberating over names, and are hoping to choose something that works in Ireland and in France, where Nick was born.
“We’ve thrown a few names out there, but we haven’t decided yet as it has to be something in both countries,” said the mum-to-be.
Aisling is also keeping her fingers crossed that the baby doesn’t decide to come early – despite what her siblings are telling her.
“All my sisters are like, ‘The third one never waits’, but I’m hoping to God it does,” she said.
Aisling has also wished her maternity replacement Cassie Stokes the best of luck on Xpose, having previously worked with the former 3e presenter.
“She’s a real trooper and very into journalism and is really dedicated. She’s a good girl,” said Aisling, who hinted they could even keep her on the programme long-term.
Aisling is now busy nesting away in her Wicklow home as she awaits her new son, saying how it was nice to finally get a break.
“The show can be quite intense, so it’s nice to get off the merry-go-round once in a while,” she said.
