The 29-year-old MMA star and actress filmed an appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and was allegedly asked to post an image of herself to Instagram to promote her appearance.

However, the image had been altered to give her a slimmer right arm.

The Furious 7 star later noticed that it had been changed and posted the original image and altered version side by side to Instagram with an apology for fans.

"I have to make an apology to everyone - I was sent a picture to share on social for Fallon that was altered without me knowing to make my arms look smaller," she wrote.

"I won't say by who - I know it was done with severely misplaced positive intentions - but this goes against everything I believe and I am extremely proud of every inch of my body.

"And I can assure you all it will never happen again. I could not be more appalled and hope you all forgive me".

Rousey has a difficult relationship with social media having been falsely revealed as HIV positive in a hoax in January.

She told EA Sports at the time, "I don’t look at articles. I don’t look at tags. I don’t look at comments. People on the Internet are mostly evil, and I don’t want to accept any of that negativity.

"I just use social media to put information out there, but I really don’t use it to receive it because people are really cruel with that access."
