Helen Mirren has the best response when people ask her about ageing
Helen Mirren's sex symbol status isn't going anywhere.
Ever since those iconic photos of the Oscar-winning actress (71) in a pink bikini hit the internet in 2008, Mirren has been known as the bombshell of her generation.
Every now and then a story comes out about her inspiring attitude - whether it's the resurfaced interview with Michael Parkinson from 1975 where she handles his sexist comments like an absolute boss, or pictures of her perfect subway etiquette going viral - the world can't get enough of Helen.
When asked how she feels about her bombshell status, she replied: “I think it’s probably going to follow me to my grave."
In an interview with AARP Magazine, she said she's found comfort and motivation in the ageing process.
"The best thing about being over 70 is being over 70. Certainly when I was 45, the idea of being 70 was like 'Arghhh!' but you only have two options in life: Die young or get old. There is nothing else," she said.
"The idea of dying young when you're 25 is kind of cool—a bit romantic, like James Dean. But then you realize that life is too much fun to do that. It's fascinating and wonderful and emotional. So you just have to find a way of negotiating getting old psychologically and physically."
The British star, who features in the 2017 Pirelli calendar, also opened up about falling for her husband Taylor Hackford and her unconventional road to romance.
"I did very consciously choose my work over my relationships right up to the time that I met Taylor. I was 38 when I met Taylor, pretty late in life."
"We got married in the end because we realized that we were going to be together forever," she added.
"We got married, ultimately, for legal reasons more than anything else. Estate planning and other complicated things like that. And our families, we sensed, wanted us to be married."
