EastEnders favourite Grant Mitchell is back in Albert Square and grieving for his late mother.

Grant, played by Ross Kemp, is still coming to terms with Peggy Mitchell's (Dame Barbara Windsor) decision to take her own life after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

In scenes which will be broadcast on August 9, a concerned Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) will take it upon herself to help.

Kathy, who famously had an affair with Grant while she was married to his brother Phil (Steve McFadden), encourages him to open up about Peggy.

Viewers will have to wait to see if Grant accepts her advice.

Documentary maker Kemp, 51, was a full-time member of the BBC One soap for nine years until 1999.

He made his long-awaited comeback as Grant after a 10-year absence for Dame Barbara's final scenes in May.

Over the years, Grant has been involved in some of the soap's classic storylines, including his fraught marriage to Tiffany (played by Martine McCutcheon).

His return to Walford once again is likely to heighten the drama as Albert Square is now the residence of Grant's ex-wife Sharon (Letitia Dean).

She had an affair with Grant's older brother Phil in the early 1990s before marrying Phil decades later.

The so-called "Sharongate" storyline is one of the most memorable in the Walford-set soap's history.

But the conflict does not end there because Grant's relationship with Kathy is also a reminder of the Mitchell brothers' turbulent past and present in Albert Square.
