Gigi Hadid is reportedly urging boyfriend Zayn Malik to work with Los Angeles’ top lifestyle gurus to help him deal with his anxiety.
The 21-year-old model’s concern was heightened after the musician’s issues forced him to pull out of a performance at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball in June. And as a result she is reportedly keen for the 23-year-old former One Direction bandmember to seek the help he needs to overcome his anxiety.
“Gigi is worried that Zayn’s anxiety could ruin his career and, in turn their relationship,” a source told Now Magazine. “She’s already lined up some of Los Angeles' top lifestyle gurus to help convince Zayn to take a two-week break at a treatment facility.”
After pulling out of the Summertime Ball, Zayn apologised to fans on Twitter, sharing he had suffered “the worst anxiety of my career. I know those who suffer anxiety will understand and I hope those who don’t can empathise with my situation.”
According to insiders, Zayn avoids answering his phone, parties or pulls a disappearing act when he’s not feeling great.
“He just cuts himself off from the world. Perhaps it’s his coping mechanism,” the source added.
As well as being open about his battles with anxiety, Zayn has previously spoken about smoking marijuana, revealing in an interview with Complex magazine: “I smoke sometimes when I’m writing. It helps with the creative process, depending on the strength of the weed. It helped me think outside of the box.”
Despite his troubles, Gigi and Zayn have been enjoying spending time together away from the spotlight.
The singer has been learning to ride horses and has admitted his favourite thing to do with his girlfriend is “Netflix and chill”.
The couple previously hit a rough patch in their relationship and broke up for a brief period of time, however, according to reports from E! News, the couple are doing better now than ever.
"Things are back to normal with them," a source close to Malik told E! News exclusively. "They got through a rough patch that Zayn was facing personally and it started to put a dark cloud on their relationship. Gigi was there for him when he needed her the most and that brought them closer than ever."
The insider added, "They have been spending some alone time together lately without the media seeing them. Zayn is feeling better with the help of Gigi and many other close people in his life. It's a work in progress for him."
