Etaoin Corr will always be thankful that she got to share her joy with dad Kevin, days before he tragically passed away.
Kevin Corr, the head gardener at Donnybrook's Heritage Community Garden had been feeling under the weather and went to hospital for a check up.
Five years previously, he had been diagnosed with cancer lymphoma in the groin and arms, but had successfully fought it.
While Kevin was in hospital, Kodaline bassist Jason Boland visited and asked him for permission to wed his only child, Etaoin.
That proposal made headlines across the country, as the musician popped the question during an Ed Sheeran gig in front of some 80,000 people.
After the romantic gesture, Etaoin and Jay visited Kevin in hospital to share the good news.
"Dad was the happiest I've ever seen him, having the time of his life with all the nurses coming in with their phones showing him the videos of the proposal stories," Etaoin told The Irish Daily Mail.
"He felt like a celebrity."
"He was so excited and we showed him all the newspapers with the proposal stories."
"He felt so bad for missing it. He said, 'Had I have known all of this I wouldn't have come into hospital!'"
On Sunday, Etaoin flew back to her apartment in London to return to work, but was stopped in her tracks by a phone call on Wednesday.
Doctors had confirmed the worst - the cancer was back, and Kevin would have to start chemotherapy immediately.
"The way we looked at it, Dad fought it before and won, and he could do it again. You have to keep positive and we were."
"On Thursday I spoke to him on the phone but his breathing was bad. He kept saying, I've a big engagement party to get to and I can't miss it."
"At lunchtime, I just got this feeling I needed to go home. I rang Jay and he booked me a flight."
The music publicist made it home in time to see her dad, but he tragically passed away on Friday morning.
Jay flew home from a band project in Switzerland to be by her side, and Kodaline performed Kevin's favourite song 'Crazy Love' by Van Morrisson at the funeral.
Etaoin (27) told the newspaper about the emotional rollercoaster she has been on since the high profile proposal.
"It's so strange as I'm still getting congratulations messages and calls. It's been such a rollercoaster going from being on top of the world to.... It's hard to take it all."
"Afterwards I got angry, thinking my dad won't be there to walk me up the aisle. Every little girl dreams of that but I know I was so so lucky to be able to go in and show my dad the ring and share all the excitement with him.
Etaoin, who met her future husband on their first day at Junior Infants at Scoil Bhríde in Straffan, Co Kildare, spoke of the close bond her father and Jay shared.
"Jason and the lads have no idea how happy they made my dad over the last five years.
"Dad was their biggest groupie and he went to every concert. He went to the smaller gigs like Whelan's all the way up to the o2 and over to Amsterdam. Being backstage and caught up in it all was the biggest thing that ever happened to my dad. They got him passes and he was there in the press put taking all the photographs. He was beside himself. I'll always be thankful for that. The lads gave him an amazing gift."
