Eamonn Holmes has been criticised by viewers after he called Prince "more of a girls' artist".
He made the comments on ITV's This Morning while discussing the Purple Rain singer's life and death with his wife and co-presenter Ruth Langsford.
Tributes have flooded in from all over the globe following the musician's shock death aged 57 at his home in Minneapolis.
Holmes said: " I think there was a bit of a problem with Prince.
"He was more of a girls' artist than a boys' artist. It was the flamboyancy. We find it hard to relate to him because there's that flamboyancy that you had with David Bowie as well..."
Angry viewers vented their anger on Twitter, with one commenting: "Eamonn Holmes not too keen on Prince's flamboyancy - Well I'm not too keen on Eamonn's buoyancy myself."
"That'll be why Prince never ascended to the level of fame that Eamonn Holmes enjoys," was another comment.
Some agreed with him, with one viewer tweeting: "I think I might have not fancied Prince for the same reason as Eamonn Holmes. There were plenty of other men to fancy though."
Another wrote: "Some people need to get out more, Eamonn Holmes wouldn't have purposely offended/upset anyone and he is rightly entitled to his own opinion."
Holmes returned to his presenting duties last week after a 10-week absence following a double hip operation.
