Old interviews have resurfaced in which Donald Trump claims he could have slept with Princess Diana.

Months after Princess Diana died in 1997, Trump told US shock jock Howard Sten that he believed the royal was “supermodel beautiful”.

Stern, who's renowned for seeking crude details when asking personal questions, pushed the billionaire businessman even further.

“Why do people think it’s egotistical of you to say you could’ve gotten with Lady Di?” Stern asked. “You could’ve gotten her, right? You could’ve nailed her?”

The Republican responded: “I think I could have.”

In 2000, Trump listed his top 10 women for Stern in a separate interview.

His then-girlfriend Melania Knauss took the top spot, but the business mogul told Stern he would also definitely would have sex with Mariah Carey, Cindy Crawford and Princess Diana.

“I think she’s magnificent,” Trump said. “Lady Di was truly a woman of great beauty.”

“Would you have slept with her?” Stern probed.

When a female contributor to the programme interjected “he wishes he’d had the opportunity,” Trump admitted: “There’s a truth to that.”

He added: “She was really beautiful and people don’t realise how beautiful she was. She was super-model beautiful, she had the height, she had the beauty, she had the skin, she had the whole thing.”

The 69-year-old, who was developing a reputation as a reality TV star at the time, added that “she was crazy, but these are minor details.”

In the earlier interview, Mr Trump claimed to have received a “really nice” letter from Princess Diana thanking him for a favour he had done her. He declined to say what the favour was.

He also described his familiarity with the tunnel where the princess met her death, saying: “I know that tunnel in Paris. It’s got like a 30-mile limit.

“If you look at this tunnel — and I really know that tunnel well, I’ve been through that tunnel many times — you can’t go more than like 30, 40 miles an hour. If you’re going 40 miles an hour through that tunnel you’re going fast. These people had to be going at 120-something miles an hour.”

Of Dodi Fayed, he added: “He was not good for her, it turned out.”

The interviews were unearthed by Buzzfeed to highlight Trump's crass comments regarding women.

Last year a BBC TV presenter claimed Mr Trump gave Diana the "creeps" after sending her "massive bouquets of flowers".

Selina Scott said: "As the roses and orchids piled up at her [Diana's] apartment she came increasingly concerned about what she should do.

"It had begun to feel as if Trump was stalking her."
