Donal Skehan on becoming a first-time father: 'Our world is about to be rocked'
Donal Skehan said his world is about to be "rocked" as he and wife Sofie prepare to welcome their first child.
The 31-year-old celebrity chef and his wife of two years, works as his long-time business manager, announced last month they're expecting a new arrival later this year.
But it was those first few months before announcing the news to the world that were most precious to them.
"We always like to hold onto something just for ourselves. It's so lovely that there's such an interest in it, but we had such a time with it just being our news. Considering our world is about to be rocked, to have that time just with each other, was really important," Donal told the July issue of VIP Magazine.
In the new interview from their adopted home of Los Angeles, Donal opened up about his plans for first-time fatherhood, saying he hopes to be "supportive and patient".
"The one thing that myself and Sofie love doing is having family time together, so spending as much with family is going to be key. You can have all the best-laid plains though. I'm sure we'll be killing each other over lack of sleep," he added.
"We have patterns of how we deal with things and when I travel, Sofie has loads of free time and vice versa. I think that's the thing we are both most nervous and excited about, just how different our lives are going to be. We're enjoying our time together now as we know there's a storm a-coming!"
As for how they met, the former Industry singer recalls their first meeting as love at first sight and within three weeks, he moved from Ireland to her native Gothenburg, Sweden, to be with her.
"I've always followed my gut and with Sofie, I just fell in love. My mum did wonder what the hell I was doing, but in fairness my parents have always been very supportive. Myself and Sofie knew we were onto something good. I am spontaneous, but I also don't jump into something that I don't believe in," he gushed.
