Diarmuid Gavin on wife Justine: 'She has shaped me because she's a much more elegant person than I am'
Celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin has gushed over his "very elegant" wife Justine and her influence on their family.
Gavin, who is a veteren at the Chelsea Flower Show, praised his 23 partner of years Justine Keane and helping shape him into the man he is today.
"We are tight, very tight. Justine in so many ways has shaped me, because I am not the elegant person she is. She has guided me into the person I am today," he tells the new issue of VIP Magazine.
"She is a very quiet, very elegant person, quite thoughtful; very moral, but still absolutely forthright with her own thoughts."
In the photoshoot, with his 12-year-old daughter Eppie, the broadcaster said he and his wife work hard at ensuring she isn't spoiled as an only child who has "grown up with a certain amount of privilege" due to his high flying career.
"She’s my kid and I’m biased, of course, but I really think Eppie is just great. She’s really thoughtful, but mad fun too. She has a great love of life and is really creative. She’s just a joy," he said.
"She’s an only child, which means she could be spoilt, but she’s not. I suppose it would be fair to say that she has grown up with a certain amount of privilege...Well, she lives in a nice place, she goes to a good school, and she can have what she wants, within reason.
"She has travelled all over the world and has got to meet people like the Queen, so she could have a bit of an attitude, but she doesn’t. I’m so proud of her."
The 52-year-old gave up alcohol over seven years ago and said he has never looked back with improving his fitness and quieting his social life.
"I don’t drink at all. And I am very boring. Not drinking does change your social life, completely. I never go out at all unless I have to go to a dinner party," he said.
"I watch Judge Judy on the iPad, that’s my dirty secret! I love current affairs too, and running. But I’ll do it too manically, of course!"
