Former world indoor champion Derval O'Rourke has welcomed her first child.
O'Rourke announced today that baby Dafne arrived a few days ago.
"Hugely grateful to all the amazing staff in CUMH. Delighted to welcome baby Dafne O'Leary to the world a few days ago," the former Irish athlete tweeted.
Derval and her husband, fellow Olympian Peter O'Leary, announced that they were expecting their first child in March.
The pair met on a return flight from the 2008 Beijing Olympics where they both competed for Ireland.
Last year, Derval had said that she wouldn't consider starting a family until she was finished competing.
"You definitely can't jump hurdles being pregnant. We both want kids but I think I'll have to retire before we think about it," she said.
O'Rourke is a two-time European silver medallist but her biggest triumph came on Moscow in 2006 when she won a gold medal at the world indoors. She retired from professional athletics last year.
