TV star Darren Kennedy has given a heartfelt speech in the name of marriage equality.
The stylist turned presenter posted a video this morning on his You Tube channel, recalling his own experience with coming out and pleading with voters to vote yes.
"For me, I think it is one of the most important political chapters of our generation," he said.
"It's a time in history, where we get to stand up and show what we think and really it's about love. And about the right to equal love.
Kennedy, who presents a fashion segment on ITV's This Morning and is a regular on RTE, explained that he never thought that marriage equality was even an option for him growing up.
"I was thinking about when I first came out to my parents, which was in my teens, more than 10 years ago," he explained. "It seems like a lifetime ago. But at that time, I was really worried and my biggest fear was that my whole world as I knew it was going to come crashing down around me.
"I didn't know how my parents were going to react, there were no reference points, there certainly was nothing as gay marriage.
"Growing up, I never considered I would get married because it just wasn't in my frame of mind."
Darren wrapped his poignant speech by asking: "Really, it boils down to a simple question - do you or do you not believe that every citizen of this country deserves equal eights?"
