The Expendables star, who plays Detective Sergeant Terence 'Terry' Jeffords in the hit US comedy, teased fans will have even more to laugh about in the upcoming series.

"We're just getting started. It's going to be funnier and better next year," he teased.

Terry said the cast, including Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher, and crew realised they were onto something special immediately. The show has won two Golden Globe awards, with an acting gong for Andre (Captain Raymond 'Ray' Holt), since premiering on US screens in September 2013.

"When we were doing the pilot, it felt like we had been together two years. It's lightning in a bottle. There were no obstacles to what we could do. We all hit right away, and that doesn't happen," Terry continued.

The 46-year-old actor credited the show's creators Dan Goor and Michael Schur, who previously worked on Late Night With Conan O'Brien, Parks And Recreation, The Daily Show and Last Call With Carson Daly.

"A lot of times, you have to fall on your face and make a ton of mistakes before you work out what works," he said.

"It was a good testament to Dan Goor and Mike Schur, they have cut their teeth on Conan, The Office, Parks And Rec(reation), and made all their mistakes on those shows, and so we were off and running from the beginning. It felt really, really good," he added.

:: The Expendables 3 is in cinemas now, while the second series of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will return to E4 in 2015.
