Could Homer Simpson be killed off?
The Simpsons has sent fans into a panic with a clip of Homer on his death bed, sparking worries that he could be killed off in the long-running show.
The 35-second clip was shown at Comic-Con in San Diego, where fans got a sneak peek at what was coming up in the 26th season of the animated programme.
According to Metro, the clip came from the season's opening episode, Yellow Wedding, which is a nod to Game Of Thrones' infamous Red Wedding episode where many characters were killed off in shocking and gruesome ways.
Homer is shown lying in bed struggling to breathe, while Marge tries to fit an oxygen mask to his face and a worried Lisa looks on.
It is already known that one high-profile character will be killed off in the episode, due to air on September 28 on Fox in the US, and the show's creator has given the clue that the character is voiced by somebody who has won an Emmy in the past for their Simpsons role.
Dan Castellaneta voices Homer Simpson and Krusty the Clown and has won an Emmy for his efforts. Krusty the Clown is currently the favourite to get the chop.
Producer Al Jean said at Comic-Con: "It's a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year. But just because a character is dying, that doesn't mean he (or she) won't pop up in a future episode."
