Coronation Street's Kym Marsh is "horrified" at reports that a sex tape featuring her is being offered for sale and could be made public.

A tabloid newspaper has said that their reporter was shown film of her performing a sex act on a man, with the footage up for sale.

Also allegedly on sale were naked and erotic images of Marsh, 40.

A spokesman for Marsh said: "Kym is understandably horrified at the claims made in today's newspaper.

"The matter has now been handed to the police who have launched an investigation.

"We trust that the Sun newspaper will co-operate fully in identifying the individual behind this plot so that they can be held to account."

Marsh plays feisty Rovers Return landlady Michelle McDonald on the ITV soap.

The Sun on Sunday was asked for £30,000 for the footage, but did not make an offer.

A new law on revenge porn came into effect last year, making it a crime to share sexually explicit images without the subject's consent.

Marsh married the actor Jack Ryder in 2002, but they split six years later. She went on to date actor Jamie Lomas, marrying in 2012 but divorcing in 2014.

The actress and former Hear'Say singer has three children: son David and daughter Emilie from her relationship with Dave Cunliffe, and daughter Polly from her relationship with Lomas.

She split from fiance Dan Hooper last year.
