Being one of the nation's busiest broadcasters and the mum of two young children, something has got to give for Colette Fitzpatrick.

She spends her weekdays presenting the news on TV3 and Sundays hosting her Newstalk morning show, all the while minding Milo (4) and Olivia (2), meaning she and husband Niall have little time for romance.

"I'm married with two kids - there's no such thing as date night in my house. If we get to talk to each other over a meal in the evening, that's a date," she said.

While nights out are few and far between, Colette's looking forward to getting dolled up for the IFTAs on Thursday.

"I'm really looking forward to it. I'm working that evening, so it'll be a bit of a dash from the newsdesk, but there'll be loads from TV3 there. It'll be great fun," she said.

Despite her workload, the Tipperary brunette said she loves her weekend gig on Newstalk, which she has settled into after two months on air.

"I won't say I'm not busy, because I really am. The good thing, though, is I'm off air at 10am so I'm home a few minutes later. It feels like I have the whole day to myself," she said.
