Fay Ripley admits Cold Feet could have been something on her CV that was "a flop".
But nearly 17 years after the comedy show started, the 49-year-old actress is about to start filming the sixth series.
"Nobody watched the first episode and we thought ITV was going to drop it," Ripley told the Sunday Express's S Magazine.
"Potentially it could have been something on my CV that was a flop. But to be honest, you never really know if a project is going to be a hit."
Five series of Cold Feet, starring Ripley, James Nesbitt, John Thomson, Robert Bathurst and Hermione Norris, followed.
And since it finished in 2003, fans have been hankering for more.
"There's been so much talk about a reunion over the years, I gradually got my head around it even when nothing was happening," Ripley added.
"So the show has never really left my life, but I mean that in a good way.
"I think we all decided, 'Let's make sure this is going to be really good if we are going to do it'.
"I hope it'll be like seeing old friends again. Obviously, these old friends will also look a lot older, but hopefully I've been on the telly enough since for it not to be too much of a shock for viewers and they don't yell, 'Oh my God, what has happened to her?'"
Filming for the eight-part series of Cold Feet is due to begin next month.
