Robbie Keane's wife Claudine is bursting with pride that the soccer ace is the first Irish person to receive a prestigious ESPY Award.

The Malahide native was beaming from ear to ear as her husband collected the accolade at the Microsoft Theater earlier this week.

"It's been an incredible week," the former lingerie model wrote in her Irish Daily Star column.

"Much to our delight, Robbie became the first-ever Irish sportsperson to receive an ESPY on Tuesday night.

For the high profile ceremony, the 30-year-old blonde opted for a low cut dress by Paco Rabanne and Gianvito Rossi heels.

"The night was full of laughter and emotion," Claudine revealed.

The mum-of-one added that the highlights of the ceremony included Caitlyn Jenner's inspiring address and an emotional speech by American footballer Devon Still who talked about his little daughter's cancer battle.

"The time came for Rob's category - Best MLS Player - and it was such an amazing moment when his name was called out," Claudine said.

"I couldn't help but think what an amazing achievement it was for him to be the only Irish sportsperson to receive such a prestigious award. It's been a fantastic year for Rob with him winning he MLS cup with LA Galaxy, becoming the league's most valuable player and receiving an ESPY award.

"The fact that it was voted for by the fans was an even bigger bonus and we can't thank those who voted enough," she added.

After the awards, the couple's 5-year-old son Robert Jr joined them.

"He was so excited to find out whether his dad had won," Claudine said. "As you can imagine, he was eager to hold the trophy and beamed with pride as he posed for pictures with his mum and dad."
