Prince Harry was reportedly on the receiving end of a marriage proposal while in Chile.

The young royal was in the South American country on Friday, June 27 when a TV host called Bernardita Middleton humorously offered to be his wife.

Harry, 29, was approached by Bernadita as he arrived at Plaza de la Ciudadania in Santiago, Chile – and she wasted no time in making her feelings clear after Harry complimented the tiara she wore, reports Us Weekly.

"I'm a Middleton!" she said. "My name is Middleton, like Princess Kate. I'll be your next wife, Harry."

Harry took the offer in typical good humour, laughing at what she said. The Prince was at the plaza to recognize former Chilean leader Bernardo O'Higgins, and was apparently very popular with the locals.

After the wreath-laying ceremony at the Plaza, Harry won the hearts of Chilean children at the Sagrada Familia kindergarten. One eight-month-old little boy in particular got attention and cuddles from the British royal.

"Who does this little one belong to?… Otherwise I'll take him home,” Harry joked.

His down-to-earth attitude won him many fans in Chile, with school teacher Jimena Perez expressing delight in how hands on he was with her pupils.

"Prince Harry was so caring with the children - he picked them up, he played with them and they loved it," she said. "He treated them like they were his own."

Harry was previously in Brazil for the World Cup, and will be leaving Chile on Sunday.
