Charlize Theron 'turned away pestering Penn' due to his party lifestyle
News broke yesterday that Charlize Theron and Sean Penn had allegedly split, after enjoying 18 months together.
Charlize Theron reportedly turned down Sean Penn after he called her drunk.
Sources say they actually broke up weeks ago, with Sean said to have already moved his stuff out.
During a recent U2 concert in LA Sean reportedly called Charlize wanting to rendezvous.
“During the after-party, Sean was very much acting like a single man on the prowl,” an insider told Radar.
“Sean had been partying with the band, and he decided to call Charlize very late - it was obvious he was feeling no pain. He wanted to go over to Charlize’s house, but she said no way.”
The pair have been friends for more than 18 years and were reported to have got engaged in December.
It’s thought that work on their joint new film The Last Face was the beginning of the end of their romance.
“Everyone knows how intense Sean is, and there is no exception on movie sets. Charlize felt he was overly critical of her at times. Separating work and personal became hard, and the lines were definitely blurred,” the source noted.
The split came as a shock to many as both Charlize, 39, and 54-year-old Sean had spoken about each other lovingly in recent months.
Sean, who’s been married twice before, told British Esquire in March how much he liked the tradition of a legal union.
"You say I've been married twice before, but I’ve been married under circumstances where I was less informed than I am today,” he said. "So I wouldn’t even consider it a third marriage, I’d consider it a first marriage on its own terms if I got married again. I mean, I like the tradition. A friend of mine wrote a line, 'Without tradition, new things die.' And I don’t want new things to die."
