The world number one golfer sat down with young fan Billy for a Q&A ahead of the the DP World Tour Championship at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai and among the questions he asked was, "Who's your favourite female tennis player?"

After laughing out loud and a long silence, McIlroy said he "stopped following women's tennis" in recent years.

He famously ended his engagement to the Danish tennis star in 2014.

Wozniacki posted an image of her on holidays at Richard Branson's Necker Island in a red bikini playing golf, which she simply captioned "Fore".

The athlete hasn't shied away from discussing their split, saying she's "thankful"

"I think I'm just a different person. Obviously it was hard at the time, but it was a great experience to go through and come out the other end of," she told OK! Magazine.

"I wouldn't have wanted it any other way."
