British Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman has revealed what Kate Middleton was really like to work with on set of her recent cover.

The Duchess of Cambridge shot in secret in Norfolk for the centenary issue of British Vogue and the style bible's long-standing editor praised her as "incredibly likeable".

Details of the shoot were kept under lock and key and the 35-year-old royal famously drove up to set wearing rollers

Schulman, who has been at the helm of the publication for 22 years, compared Kate's serious approach to her role to that of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

"She's incredibly likeable. She really is. She wants to do what she's doing well, and she's very professional," she told ES Magazine.

"Diana was more interested in that high-voltage celebrity, that was something she really embraced. The Duchess of Cambridge is prepared to do her bit, but it's not one of the things that she most cares about."

"She loves her kids and the countryside. Dressing up, that's a professional side to her. It's a sort of uniform, all those lovely couture costumes."

Landing Middleton for the cover was a major coup for the magazine as it marked Kate's first ever magazine interview and photoshoot and likely her last for some time.

The iconic cover was kept under wraps for four months despite the fact that Schulman allowed a documentary crew inside the Vogue offices for a BBC Two special.
