Brian O'Driscoll and Amy Huberman have received the go-ahead to revamp their new €1.8m dream family home in south Dublin.

Last year, the two purchased a Victorian property on the tree-lined Palmerston Road in Rathmines.

The couple have now successfully applied for an extension to the five-year planning permission attached to the property.

That should give them more than sufficient time to transform the house - which is currently split into three different flats - into a family home for themselves and their two young children.

The €1.8m that the couple paid for the home is less than half the €4.3m previous owners paid for the home in 2006.

Rugby legend O'Driscoll is enjoying a lucrative career as a pundit for BT Sport and Newstalk, while Huberman recently played the lead role in the RTÉ legal drama 'Striking Out'.

The most recent accounts for O'Driscoll's main firm show that its accumulated profits soared to €4.4m in the 12 months to the end of August 2015.

Accumulated profits at Huberman's firm topped €100,000 at the end of 2015.
