Bressie has opened up for the first time about his split with model Roz Purcell.

The Blizzards singer (35) had been dating the former Miss Universe Ireland (25) for four years and the couple announced they'd gone their separate ways in May.

And while they rarely discussed each other during the course of their romance, they stayed true to that ethos since and have both made just a handful of comments regarding the split in recent months.

But Bressie, who had been a coach on The Voice of Ireland, which was cancelled last week, said he was grateful he and the food blogger never put themselves out there as there "was nothing nasty" in terms of media coverage after the break-up.

"It's part of what you do," he said on Songs in the Key of Life on Today FM.

"We had to spend a few weeks getting used to the idea ourselves. I found the most difficult part throughout the breakup was people trying to find the reason. The reality was, it's no one's business.”

“The thing with me and Roz...we never used the media, we never put ourselves out there, like other couples may do. And we felt that because of that, we might not feel the full brunt force of [the media intruding]. And they didn’t, there was nothing nasty.

"But it was difficult. As you get older, breakups are hard. They knock you down. I think only now am I getting back on my feet."

Meanwhile, Roz has stayed characteristically tight-lipped on the topic, only saying they are "still friends" in June.

“There’s actually no story to it, people keep looking for one, we just both decided to break up and that’s it.”

“It’s just totally magnified because we’re in the public eye,” she told the RTE Guide.

“We’re still friends, we were always such good mates and I’ll always wish him the best.”
