She said: "I can't believe it. I just can't believe it's happened.

"It's incredible and makes me so grateful. I'm a believer in whatever gift we receive, we are supposed to share and use it to help others.

"I'm hoping and praying it's just the next stage to some of the work I do."

Boulaye rose to prominence after finding fame on popular 70s TV show New Faces, where she made history as the first contestant to receive maximum points from the judges.

Her success on the show raised her profile and she went on to release an album.

In 1984 she also hosted her own self-titled TV show on Channel 4.

Her TV and music aside, Boulaye has worked tirelessly to give something back to those less fortunate than her. She is the founder and president of the Support for Africa charity which has seen her touch the lives of many.

Boulaye said of her OBE: "It's such a great gift. It's probably one of the best gifts I've been given."
