Singer Bonnie Ryan is taking a leaf out of her older sister Lottie's book when it comes to her relationship - she is keeping her man firmly under wraps.

Speaking to the Diary, the singer confirmed for the first time she is in a long-term relationship - but she insisted that she would not be parading him around as her boyfriend wants to stay out of the spotlight.

"His name is John. We have been together a long time," she said.

As the daughter of the late Gerry Ryan, Bonnie is a member of one of Ireland's most prominent showbiz families, making it harder to keep her relationship private.

"I don't want to drag John into it because he is trying to stay out of everything. I'm very private," she said.

The 23-year-old is busy recording her debut album and co-writes all of her own songs, admitting her boyfriend often serves as the inspiration for her writing sessions.

"I write songs about everything in my life," she said.

Bonnie caused a stir earlier this year with the release of her debut single, I'm Out.

Filmed in popular celebrity haunt Lillie's Bordello, the video features the songstress dancing with pals in the club while she sings about getting over an ex.

"I was so happy, I couldn't believe it. The first day it came out it went to number 4 in the iTunes chart, so I was blown away," she said.

"I put so much time and effort and preparation into it, so I was excited.

"I had so much fun. It was my first real video. It was a full day, it was intense."

However, the Dubliner also received some flack from people who thought the video was too provocative, but Bonnie insisted that all mattered to her was that her family were OK with it.

"People are saying that it was raunchy and I don't know why at all," she said.

"I have been a dancer since I was a kid, so it's just natural to me.

"That seems to be the feedback, but it was cool with my mom so I'm sure it was fine.

"My mom has seen me dance before so when she saw the video she thought it was deadly," she added.

Speaking at the opening of Billy Elliot at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Bonnie insisted she was not trying to shock people.

The brunette revealed her sister was the brains behind the video, as Lottie choreographed it.

"I'm just having fun, I'm a dancer. There wasn't any thought behind it of, I don't want to shock people or anything.

"I just went in on the day and had fun and that was it," she added.
