Irish rugby star Peter Stringer and his wife Debbie are celebrating the birth of their first child.

The couple announced they were expecting in March and how now welcomed a baby boy named Noah Alexander.

The little one was born on April 1.

Proud mum Debbie took to Instagram today to announce the news with a photo of a teddy bear, a pair of baby socks and a board with her son's name, weight and date of birth inscribed.

Peter and Debbie wed in 2015 in Spain and have been based in Manchester for the last number of years, where Stringer plays for the English team Sale Sharks.

They first met in 2009 and Debbie, from Cork, counts singer and reality tv star Nadia Forde as her closest friend - even introducing her to her boyfriend of one year Dominic Day, a former teammate of Stringer's at his former rugby club in Bath.
