Amal Clooney is back.

The renowned human rights barrister (39) made her first public appearance on Thursday night as she touched down in Venice with husband George for the city's annual film festival. It's an appropriate destination for Amal to feel more comfortable being photographed since giving birth to their twins in June - they wed in Venice in 2014.

The couple have been pictured together a handful of times in recent weeks, but the modern style icon made a splash as she arrived to the Hotel Danielle via water taxi alongside her Oscar winning husband (56), in a polka dot party dress by Ermanno Scervino. Clooney is preparing for the premiere of his film Suburbicon, a crime comedy starring Matt Damon and Julianne Moore, which is in contention for the Golden Lion.

They will walk the red carpet at Sala Grande on Saturday night and while it marks the first major appearance for them as a couple, it wasn't much of a stretch - they have been residing at their Lake Como compound Villa Oleandra in Laglio with the new arrivals for most of the summer.

The pair welcomed twins Ella and Alexander over the summer and the new father has taken every opportunity to gush about this new chapter in his life.

"I really didn’t think at 56 that I would be the parent of twins. Don’t make plans. You always have to just enjoy the ride," he told the Associated Press.

"Suddenly, you’re responsible for other people, which is terrifying. She's (Amal) like an Olympic athlete. She’s doing so beautifully."
