Aaisling O’Loughlin has revealed the hardest part of her break-up to Nick MacInnes is when he has to say goodbye to their children.

The TV presenter (38) split from the photographer earlier this year after several years together.

They are parents to Patrick (5), Louis (3) and eight-month-old Joseph.

“I think children always want their parents to be together. The ideal, and what you would always love to give them, is the happily ever after. That’s why you try in the first place.

“When it comes to the conclusion that’s not going to happen, the next thing is ‘how do we do this and make sure they are our top priority?’.

“Sometimes Patrick will say, ‘why is Daddy going now?’. He wants him to stay. That’s the hardest part,” she told the Diary.

Nick remains a constant presence in their children’s lives and Aisling still sees him almost every day.

“It’s about peace, isn’t it? We just had a parent-teacher meeting and we both turned up. We’re both very invested in the kids,” she said.

“It’s probably better now to tell you the truth. I think we’re all happier. We have such structure. Nick is here every day. It’s not like he bolted, thank God. I would have come after him. We have had a nice break-up.”

Aisling has already noticed several differences in personality between her three boys.

“They are very different little creatures, for sure. You have your pecking order cliches. Patrick is bossy. Louis in the middle is making sure he is heard and Joseph is very quiet and cool and relaxed,” she said.

The former TV3 presenter is currently focusing on her lifestyle website Exquisite.ie.

She hopes it will be a service for busy mothers on the go, although she would never feel comfortable giving another parent advice.

“I think most people are frazzled. It’s very intense, it’s tough. You just have to do what’s right for you to the best you can.

“I wouldn’t ever dare give advice because I think most people are doing the best they can in whatever circumstance they’re in.”

Aisling is adding another string to her bow by MC-ing a new live event called Stepping Out In Style with stylist Clare Devereux, which takes place on March 7 at the Radisson Blue Hotel in Golden Lane.

“It’s Claire’s baby and she’s got me in. I’ll be MC-ing. I’ll give it a whirl and see how I get on,” she said. “It’s going to be high tea in the Radisson.

“I think there’s going to be a sex therapist there at one stage. They are going to be doing live lip fillers on stage, Kylie Jenner style.

“What I really like about this year is every time I go out, I’m meeting people. It’s networking. It’s something I didn’t have to do before.”
