'A dog is enough chaos for us right now,' says Tommy Bowe on expanding his family with wife Lucy
Irish rugby star Tommy Bowe has opened up about expanding his family with wife Lucy Whitehouse.
The Monaghan native (32) wed long-term girlfriend Lucy, a former Miss Wales, last June in a low-key ceremony in her native Wales and the pair will be celebrating their one year anniversary in style this summer.
The pair first met in 2011 through mutual friends and they moved to Belfast when Tommy returned to Ulster in 2014. And while he gushed about how "great" married life is, babies aren't on the agenda just yet.
"Lucy’s been in Belfast for a couple of years now at this stage. I don’t think it makes a massive difference that we’re married but so far, so good," he told Independent.ie.
"I do notice that it seems all of my teammates – it seems like we need a crèche in the training facility at the minute – it’s kids galore. It’s something we’ll talk about in the future. We’ve got a dog at the minute which is more than enough chaos for us," he told Independent.ie
As for his anniversary celebrations, Tommy said he will be soaking up the sun abroad with his wife as they mark one year together.
"I think we’re going to be on holidays so unfortunately, or fortunately, I’m going to be missing out on the summer tour to South Africa which for me personally is very frustrating," he added. "On the plus side, it means I won’t be in South Africa for our wedding anniversary so I suppose Lucy might be happy with that. It gives us the opportunity to get away for a few weeks and enjoy a bit of sunshine before I get myself ready for next season."
Tommy marked the launch of the Spring/Summer range of his clothing line Tommy Bowe XV Kings and described the 40-piece collection as an "expansion" of their successful Autumn/Winter range.
"It’s a lot warmer, we have a lot of new t-shirts, short sleeve shirts, new polos and stuff that people can wear casual wear around Ireland things people can wear on holidays too," he explained.
"There’s a huge amount of ways we can go – different areas that we can expand on. The clothes are the new venture at the moment. The shoes are something that we got into five years ago and they’ve grown and grown each year and it’s something I really enjoy being part of."
While might be one of the most famous faces in Irish sport with a successful clothing line and shoe range (Lloyd & Pryce) and Tommy is optimistic about what the future holds for Brand Bowe.
"Since we got into clothing, it’s opened up a whole new world – the intricacies of different collar sizes, different dimensions and having the rugby guys complaining certain t-shirts don’t fit them," he said.
"We had a relatively small collection last year, we’re trying to expand it again so we can cover people going out for a football match, for a few drinks and for a bit of food, something people can wear every day. Hopefully who knows where we’ll go."
