Fans were left reeling this week from the news that pop's favourite couple Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris had called it quits after more than a year of dating.
The superstar DJ joins the long list of Taylor's former flames, ranking alongside A-list actors, pop stars and American political royalty.
The Shake It Off singer is known for her heart-break anthems, and famously penned a string of hits about her exes.
We look back at Taylor’s love life and the famous men who have inspired some of her biggest hits.
Joe Jonas, July 2008-October 2008
When these two clean-cut pop stars got together, it seemed like a perfect match: Joe was still wearing his purity ring and Taylor was known for her wide-eyed country girl image. However, after just a few months, it came to an end as Joe is reported to have broken it off with a bitter 27-second phone call.
Taylor Lautner, August 2009-December 2009
Taylor met her next beau on set while making the film Valentine’s Day. Despite giving rise to one of the best couple names - Taylor Squared – their union was short-lived. She was rumoured to be less keen than the Twilight star. Her song Back to December is assumed to be about him, which includes the telling line “you gave me roses and I left them there to die”. Ouch!
John Mayer, December 2009-February 2010
Before her arch nemesis Katy Perry got involved with the notorious lothario, he dated Taylor, then just 19 years old. She famously wrote the song Dear John about their tumultuous relationship, singing: “Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress cried the whole way home. I should’ve known.”
Jake Gyllenhaal, October 2010-January 2011
They only spent four months together, but her relationship with the Oscar-nominated actor was one of Taylor's most serious. Gyllenhaal reportedly chartered a private jet to fly her out to a date, but is rumoured to have broken up with her via text. Cruel it may be, but the moment inspired Taylor to bless us all with her break-up hit We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
Conor Kennedy, July 2012-October 2012
At the time of their romance, there were four years between Taylor (22) and Conor (18), a member of the famed American political dynasty. The pair were so close that Taylor ended up buying a $4.8m home near his family’s compound in Cape Cod - which she later sold for a reported $5.7m after the split. Sounds like good business sense to us.
Harry Styles, December 2012-January 2013
‘Haylor’ fans loved every moment of Taylor’s fleeting relationship with the 1D heartthrob, which is believed to be the inspiration for the smash hit I Knew You Were Trouble. Following intense media scrutiny, the pair went their separate ways, and Taylor said she wasn’t comfortable with her private life being the subject of so much attention. “I feel like watching my dating life has become a bit of a national pastime, and I’m just not comfortable providing that kind of entertainment any more,” she told Rolling Stone.
Calvin Harris, March 2015 to June 2016
Taylor took a pretty lengthy break from dating after her much-publicised fling with Harry Styles, and it was more than two years before she was spotted getting close with another famous man – DJ Calvin Harris. The pair spent 15 months together before Calvin reportedly called it off earlier this week. He has since tweeted that he has "a huge amount of love and respect" for his ex. While we’re sad to see the It couple part, the breakup song that will surely follow is destined to be a classic.
