Transforming brunette Emilia Clarke - with her English-rose complexion - into a sun-kissed, platinum blonde Mother of Dragons takes a lot of time and effort, not to mention the work that goes in to making 'The Hound' appear like a frightening, ragged, burn victim. It's no wonder Game of Thrones picked multiple awards for outstanding make-up at the Emmys.

The intricate and detailed costumes also play a big part in bringing the characters of the medieval-fantasy to life. In fact, most of the stars of the HBO series look unrecognisable on the red carpet without their winter fur, Dothraki leather, steel armour or intricate, jewelled gowns.

Would you be able to recognise your favourite Game of Thrones characters outside of Westeros?
