Kylie Jenner vs. Kylie Minogue: Who's who in the great trademark battle
Kylie Jenner has lost her petition to have the name Kylie trademarked.
The 19-year-old reality star applied for a patent to the US Patent and Trademark Office to own the trademark to the name for her businesses.
After she lodged the papers in 2016, Minogue's team fought against the trademark, saying she is known around the world as just Kylie and her website is www.kylie.com.
In some seriously shady court documents, the superstar singer described the up-and-coming Kylie as a "secondary reality television personality" who is considered a "supporting character" on Keeping Up With The Kardashians on E!.
Jenner's team has filed an appeal, so before that is (likely) rejected also, let's consider the stats:
Rise to fame: Kylie was bitten by the acting bug and had her first brush with fame in a now iconic soap role as Charlene on Neighbours in her native Australia from 1986. After releasing Locomotion in 1998, she took the first step to becoming a global superstar.
Relationship status: Recently ended engagement to actor Joshua Sasse.
Awards and accolades: OBE for services to music, three Brit Awards (14 nominations), one Grammy (five nominations), three Ivor Novello Awards (seven nominations), two VMAs and two EMAs.
Net worth: €70 million
Most famous for: Being a superstar singer whose career has spanned decades.
Philanthropy: As a breast cancer survivor, she has taken to raising funds for the cause since she was given the all clear in 2006.
Occupation: Reality tv star/businesswoman
Relationship status: Dating 26-year-old rapper Tyga.
Rise to fame: Kylie first appeared on her family's reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2007, then left high school at the age of 15 to be homeschooled and was put to work with her model sister Kendall - with clothing lines, books and endorsement deals.
Most famous for: Originally, Kylie was best known as the youngest Kardashian/Jenner sister, but she has surpassed all expectations and is now the second wealthiest Kardashian, second only to Kim (who makes $51m per year). Oh, and her lips.
Awards and accolades: Choice Female Reality/Variety Star at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards and nominated for Choice Snapchatter in 2016. Last year, she was named by Forbes in both their 30 Under 30 as one of the millennials "reinventing retail" through sales of her cosmetics line online and launching pop-up shops in Los Angeles. She also claimed to have "started" wigs.
Philanthropy: Kylie donated some of the profits from her most recent range of Lip Kits to Smile Train - an estimated $500,000 in total.
