‘I was nervous telling O’Gara his time was up’: Rob Kearney on being latest face of Newbridge
Rugby star Rob Kearney has been unveiled as the latest face of Newbridge Silverware, following in the footsteps of former teammate Ronan O’Gara.
Despite “not being a jewellery man” himself, Kearney is thrilled to be an ambassador for the Guinness by Newbridge Silverware.
“I am delighted to be working with Newbridge Silverware, joining some friendly faces including Amy and the likes,” he told RTÉ 2FM’s Jenny Green. “Especially as it’s an Irish brand, it’s important to support your own.”
The 28-year-old Ireland player will become the face of the home and menswear collections. He revealed that his mother and sister Sara are sure to benefit from his latest role, as there’ll be “Newbridge Silverware under everyones tree” this Christmas.
He did not mention his pretty girlfriend Jess (21) who was pictured by his side over the weekend.

His younger brother Dave, who is also his teammate and housemate, will also get some cufflinks “to keep him happy”.
The previous high profile face of the brand was Ronan O’Gara, and Louth native Kearney joked that he was dreading seeing him after the news was revealed.
“I did see him last week, I was a bit nervous telling him your time is up,” he laughed. “He took it well to be fair.”
Following Ireland’s triumph over France on the weekend, Kearney and his team mates spent the last few days training in Galway and will enjoy a few well earned days of rest this weekend before they face England.
“We know ourselves what level we’re at, we do agree there's still a fair bit to get out of the team.. It’s all about the winning - despite what you’re told growing up as a child,” he said in jest.
The full-back assured audiences that his fellow players Johnny Sexton and Jamie Heaslip are “starting to recover” from the injuries they received during Saturday’s match.
“The two lads are good. Johnny is gone back to France, Jamie got a bit of a bang so he’ll be out for a couple of weeks - he’ll be a big loss.”
