Up in smoke
The secrets to Gemma Arterton's smoky khaki eye.
Let's face it; a black smoky eye can look a little dated. Thank goodness then for Gemma Arterton, who, as seen here at the party to celebrate Alber Elbaz's collection for Lancôme, masters a smoky khaki eye.
Alex Babsky, Lancôme's UK make-up ambassador, shares his secrets about how he created this look.
"I really didn't want to cover up the beautiful tanned and freckled holiday skin that Gemma has at the moment, so I just used the tiniest amount of foundation to even out a few areas, with a little concealer around the eyes," reveals Babsky.
He then applied a couple of broad strokes of matte bronzer across Gemma's forehead, cheekbones and nose.
For the smoky eye, Babsky picked the deepest colour in the Lancôme Hypnose palette shade ST2 (a gorgeous moody, khaki shade) and applied the colour wet with a damp brush to intensify the colour, along the lower lash line and over Gemma's eyelid, blending outwards. He then ran a heavy line of black kohl along the upper lashline and lower waterline for more intensity, followed by couple of coats of black mascara.
And to finish? Yes, you've guessed it, a sheer wash of nude lipstick - the reassuring companion to any smoky eye.
Although that will never change, once you try khaki shadow you may never want to go back to black.
