Triona's Trends: Ace of base
The older I get, the more I realise that foundation or base is definitely the most important part of my make-up routine.
When I was younger, I was all about the craziest colours for eyes and lips, but now I know that if you don’t get the foundation right, everything else will just look wrong too.
Something that drives me craaaaazy is when I see someone testing foundation on the back of their hand. You don’t wear it there and the skin is a different texture and colour, so stop it!
In fact, a foundation that is too pale can add years to older skin. I’m very pale, but I find that if I use a foundation that’s even a half shade or more darker than my natural skin tone, it gives me a lift and makes my complexion fresher. I’m absolute loving the new YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat, €38. Everyone that I’ve tried it out on has bought it.
If you use too much foundation, it can settle in your lines and accentuate them. To avoid this, use a damp sponge to lift off any excess. Tinted moisturisers are also great at this time of year and the Garnier BB cream, above left, €14.99, is excellent.
A lot of peeps use too much concealer as they get older. After your foundation, apply a tiny bit under the eyes but never over crow’s feet where it can exaggerate lines. Mac Pro Longwear concealer, €17.50, is good for this.
