Triona's trends

We've all seen those awful pictures of Naomi Campbell's bald patches -- a result of years of wearing hair extensions. Britney Spears hasn't fared any better, with photos of her dodgy do doing the rounds in cyberspace.

Thank God I've never had hair extensions, even though I've been offered them a million times.

But if you really want long, luscious locks, then you should try Flip-In Hair, which is available exclusively at Wapa Hair and Beauty salon in Clontarf. Essentially a large hair extension attached to a circular wire, Flip-In Hair, which is made from human hair, doesn't damage your own hair in any way, as it does not attach to it. Instead, it fits snugly to your scalp, and the thin wire is hidden by your hair. No clips, no glue, no weaving, no damage. It takes literally one minute to flip in and one second to remove, and it's fine to use with thinning or damaged hair.

I got Janet Murphy from Wapa to match one to the same colour as my own hair, and I love it. You can still use hairdryers, curling tongs -- as you can see me doing, above -- and straightening irons.

I use Kerastase's Bain Satin shampoo, above right, €19, and Lait Vital conditioner, left, €22.50, to keep my hair vitalised and in tip-top condition.

It's a wrap

Regular readers will remember how I always called my much-missed sister "Tree-Hugging Tricia", as she was always on to me to be more of a green goddess.

So, when I spotted these Knot-Wrap scarves in Lush, right, €4.95 -- I bought one, as I knew Tricia would approve. The wraps are inspired by furoshiki, which means 'cloth for the bath', and originated in Japan. In the 1600s, people used them to carry their clothes and toiletries. Each year, billions of plastic bags end up as litter. Reusable bags, such as Knot-Wrap, can help to reduce the impact on our environment. These scarves can either be reused as bags, or used as fashionable headscarves.

Knot-Wrap is available in Lush shops nationwide. For shop details and mail order, tel: (00441202) 668-545, or see www.lush.co.uk

Triona's tricks

Nooooooooo!

If you are like me, then the first thing you do after buying an expensive shimmery eyeshadow is drop it on the floor, shattering it completely.

Well, don't despair.

Simply scoop up as much as you can and mix it with some of your body lotion for a fabulous body-shimmer lotion.

Browns, golds and pink work best.

Spot star

I love Katy Perry, right, and can't stop singing her song, Teenage Dream:

You think I'm pretty,

Without any make-up on

You think I'm funny,

When I tell the punchline wrong.

I know you get me,

So I'll let my walls come down, down.

FYI, skin imperfections are not just a teenage concern -- skin imperfections such as spots, blackheads, redness, enlarged pores and localised shine can be a concern for adult women aged between 20 and 40. Adult skin requires a daytime product to fight imperfections, but at the same time it needs to hydrate and comfort.

Thankfully, those clever peeps at Vichy Laboratoires have invented Normaderm Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care, €17.50, to treat imperfections.

Cult project

Mmmmm! Miller Harris, the innovative, yet timeless, luxury English fragrance house, is now available at Arnotts.

Some of Miller Harris's scented candles were gifted to Michelle Obama by Samantha Cameron on a visit to the White House. Fleur Oriental is Miller Harris's best-selling fragrance, and you can get it as a beautiful gift set. The Fleur Oriental Gift Set, below, €82.80, has the 100ml eau de toilette and 80g natural-wax candle presented in a gift box in the signature shade of ruby garnet.
