Triona's trends: Lots of products that land on my desk promise to do something in, or for, a certain amount of time, so I thought I’d pick out the best. Four minutes: Mama Mio Bootcamp for Tummies, €80, is a skincare and exercise system.

  • Go To

First, it has Skin Tight Toning Serum, with active ingredients including papaya enzyme, hyaluronic acid and soy protein. It exfoliates, moistures and smoothes the skin, as well as improving its texture. Then, the Get Wasted Body Shaper is formulated to target fat cells and increase the rate at which fat is broken down. Finally, the exercise part: fret not, it’s just a four-minute-a-day routine designed to get the abs that you dream of.

Three days: John Frieda 3-Day Straight, €6.89. This product will be transformational for all those who hate their curls. It is a semi-permanent, heat-activated styling spray. The keratin protein wraps around the hair strands, locking out the curls and frizz. Four days: Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Nail Thickener, €10.95, has a calcium and ceramic gel formula to create defensive shield to bond, seal and protect thin, weak nails. Nails look up to 70 per cent thicker in four days, it’s claimed. Seven days: Garnier Body Intensive 7 Days from €4.49 which claims it'll leave your skin feeling hydrated for up to seven days.

Triona's tricks

My gorgeous friend, MLG, has the best legs ever and gave me a great tip for wearing tights in summer. To give legs a bit of colour and coverage, rub some baby oil into the tights when they’re on, so it looks like you have silky smooth, tanned legs. Also, if you don't have enough time for a full-on shaving session in the shower, rub baby oil on to your legs and glide a razor over them — the oil will protect your skin.

Golden rule

It was seared into my brain by Bronwyn Conroy — the doyenne of beauty therapy in Ireland, with whom I trained to be a beauty therapist — that we should always cleanse our skin properly. It’s one of the most important things you can do to keep your skin looking young. I hear you barking — come on now, we’ve all fallen in the door after a Big Night Out, and the last thing you’re gonna do is a full cleanse, tone and moisturise routine, eh?

However, Vichy Laboratoire’s new NormaDerm Micellar Solution, €13, has been created for maximum efficacy on both face and eyes — to not only remove make-up, but also to cleanse and remove excess sebum, while at the same time soothing sensitive skin. Simply use with a cotton pad to cleanse your skin without water. I pop mine next to my bed before I leave the house. Sorted!

Hello yellow

The most of-the-moment polish on fingers and toes this summer is Chanel’s Le Vernis Nail Colour, €21, in a beeeeautiful, bright yellow called Mimosa — sure to put a smile on your dial. Somehow this yellow doesn’t make you look like you’ve smoked 50 fags or have a fungal infection. It’s the perfect pick-me-up for summer, and looks really good with a tan as well.

All the slebs such as Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, and Diane Kruger have been, um, going bananas for it. Ooh — I’m getting hungry now just typing the word banana! Might get myself a sanger. Actually, here’s a good one for you, with a hint of yellow in it. I was in this new sandwich shop the other day and gave my order to the girl at the counter. She rattled off a list of condiments and ingredients, but I stopped her when she asked if I wanted white cheese or yellow. “What’s the difference?” I asked. “Hello?” she replied, rolling her eyes. “The colour is different!” Haha!

Cult product

My boyfriend isn’t a tan fan. He hates how I “sweat gravy” in ze bed and, as for the tan smell . . . Thank God for Xen-Tan’s new addition to its range, Scent Secure. This is a breakthrough product in fake-tanning technology as it locks out the unpleasant smells associated with any fake-tan product. It provides oil-free moisturisation and firming action for all skin types, and it is ideal for use before and after fake-tan application. Now for the science bit: it contains a molecule which surrounds the DHA that causes the traditional fake-tan smell. Its fresh scent means it can be used by both women and men.

Triona's most wanted

How come I never came up with that one? Castlemartyr Resort, just 20 minutes from Cork city, came up with the 'sparties' idea to meet a demand from guests for packages to help them celebrate girlie occasions such as new engagements, college reunions or special birthdays.

Sparties combine spa treatments and delicious food for a perfect day of indulgence and pampering. And if guests don’t wish the day to end there, they can choose to stay overnight to gossip and watch DVDs, glam up and go for dinner in the award-winning Bell Tower restaurant, or continue the party in Castlemartyr’s Knights Bar. The Sparties day package starts from €120pp and includes two spa treatments followed by afternoon tea. Hmm, might change my name to Sparty McCarthy!
