Triona McCarthy: Dare to bare
Time to get those legs out, ladies. But, oh dear, says Triona McCarthy, they’re looking a bit hairy and a tad scary. Not to worry, though, Legs Eleven herself has the top tips for getting your pins ready for public viewing

Triona's trends: We have all been covering up our lovely legs in tights, boots and socks but, with the warmer weather here at last, it’s time to get those pins out.
First up, ladies, it’s time to abandon our beloved opaques. Let’s face it, hair removal gets a little lax during the winter hibernation, but time’s up: the Hairy Marys have got to go! It can be tempting to revert to the razor to get your pins party ready. For a longer lasting, pain-free solution, and one that doesn’t pull on the purse strings, at-home depilatory creams are the answer. Try Veet Suprem’ Essence Hair Removal Cream, €5.59, with velvet rose and essential oils. It’s also time to address those dry, dead-skin cells. Right now I’m McLovin’ L’Occitane’s Plum Blossom Polishing Gel, €16.50. It smells divine and has exfoliating almondshell granules. After exfoliation, moisturise. Invest in the slightly spendy Guinot’s Nutrizone Corps Nourishing Body Cream, €65.50. Since our legs haven’t seen the light of day for some time, they could be looking a tad translucent. Clarins new Delectable Self Tanning Mousse, €24, has a light texture and gives a subtle, natural tan. Never forget — everyone’s feet look better with nail polish. Use a bright colour, such as Catrice Ultimate Nail Lacquer in 360, or 540, €2.79 each; there are 19 new shades to try.
When you’re applying body moisturiser or using a body exfoliator, or even when dry body-brushing, you need to remember that it’s all about the application process. The golden rule is always to work towards your heart. Doing this is in keeping with your body’s natural blood circulation, and it will only enhance the benefits of your chosen product. Rub-a-dub-dub!
Pinky and perfect
So I’m learning to — erm, this is a bit embarrassing — but my therapist is making me learn to love myself a bit more. God, I’m morto even writing that. Anyway, I’ve been listening to Pink’s song F**kin’ Perfect and the lyrics make me think that, well, you know what, whether you’re fat, thin, tall, short, pink, yellow, black or brown — you’re perfect in your own way. “Made a wrong turn, Once or twice, Dug my way out, Blood and fire. Bad decisions, That’s alright, Welcome to my silly life. “Mistreated, misplaced, missundaztood, Miss ‘No way it’s all good’, It didn’t slow me down “Mistaken, Always second guessing, Underestimated, Look, I’m still around . . . “Pretty, pretty please, Don’t you ever, ever feel, Like you’re less than. Less than perfect, Pretty, pretty please, If you ever, ever feel, Like you’re nothing, You are perfect to me.” In keeping with the Pink theme, check out Lancome’s L’Absolu Nu, €25.50 in Pale Petal, combining lip care with a unique, delicate texture.
I was in Cork lately and I popped into my old pal Clodagh Shorten, who owns Samui — it’s only the bestest boutique in Cork. Clodagh was all excited as she’s now stocking the hottest and most talked about unisex fragrances, Escentric 01, and Molecule 01, €75, by Escentric Molecules. Boasting an enviable celebrity fan club that includes Kate Moss, Madonna and Mario Testino, the cult brand was designed to provide much more than a scent, but an actual feeling, too. The Escentric Molecules concept was created by Berlin-based ‘nose’ Geza Schoen as a deliberately provocative comment on the way fragrance is made and marketed today. I can’t believe how much people love these scents — or hate them! Some go on and on about how they’re like an aphrodisiac, while others think they smell a bit like bleach. To draw your own conclusion, go to Samui, 17 Drawbridge St, Cork, tel: (021) 427-8080, or see www.samuifashions.com
I love www.fatcheese.ie, a website where I can earn money as I shop online. I know, I know, sounds too good to be true — bet you’re intrigued, though. Here’s an example of how it works: if you wanted to buy, say, a cult beauty product like my absolute favourite blusher by Nars in Orgasm, €26.90, from www.asos.com, you can actually earn 7.5 per cent cash back on the purchase on the Asos site, simply by one click through fatcheese. It’s actual cash, not annoying coupons or anything and you shop as normal on Asos or on hundreds of other sites. If you think about how your purchases can build up over the year, it could add up to quite a significant amount by Christmas.
