Triona's trends: We’ve all been through a break-up, haven’t we girls? But you know what, whether you’re the one doing the dumping or you're the dumped, all parties need to be prepared for all eventualities.

That could be meeting the new and improved Mr Right, or maybe showing Mr Wrong how bad he was to let you go. So what are the must-haves for your make-up bag, so you’re ready for any ex-related or new X-rated encounters? No more tears; instead, you need to be on the lookout, so lash on Lancome’s Renergie Yeux Multiple Lift, €53.

I’ve banged on about this before as it’s such a winner. I’m also McLovin’ Finding Mr Bright, by Benefit, €39.50, as not only do the bright packaging and the witty name set the single gal on the right track, but the mini versions of primer, cheek tint, concealer and highlighter enable you to glow your way through the dating scene.

Pucker up with Pocket Rocket from Urban Decay, €16.50. This gloss is bound to make you LOL as the hologram image on the packaging has a tiny well-dressed fella — front and rear views, ladies — who, with the tilt of the tube, strips down to his undies for your viewing pleasure.

Finally, I’m rocking this Fast & Fuchsia pink nail colour, just one the funky colours from Rimmel’s 60 Seconds Nail Polish range, €3.95. It comes with a new express brush, making it even easier to spruce up those nails so you can get your claws into someone, and remember: pink makes the boys wink.

Triona's tricks

Do you feel your foundation is too thick, now that we’re finally out of the depths of darkness and into sunny days? Then don’t forget you can mix in some of your moisturiser with your foundation. It’s a great way of getting SPF on to your face, if it’s not already in your foundation.

Straight talk

FYI, using SPF is a must for everyone, all-year round

Well, whatever about unruly men, what about unruly hair? Right now I’m trying out the new John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight, €6.89. This is a semi-permanent styling spray that delivers a flawless straight style. Celebrity hair stylist Kerry Warn, international creative consultant for the John Frieda brand, was in town recently and styled my hair for my picture, above, using the product.

Appara, women with frizzy hair can spend up to 40 minutes drying and straightening their hair, only for it to begin to curl and frizz again in just a few hours. The makers say that their unique, heat-activated polymer technology styles the hair straight and keeps it that way for up to three days

My spa at home

I’m all for turning my bathroom into my own private spa. While I adore going to a spa, it usually puts a dent in my bank account. So, lately I’ve learned to chill at home with the new Lazy Spa range from M&S.

The Skin Deep Warming Body Clay, €8, is like a proper spa-type treatment. I apply a thin layer of this clay over my body, concentrating on areas such as my thighs, bottom, stomach and my decolletage.

Then I sit back, relax and leave it on for up to 10 minutes, while indulging in some me-time, daydreaming about me new fella. According to the makers, the clay works in three different ways: first, the warming action helps to open pores, deeply cleansing the skin; next, the Dead Sea mud and kaolin detoxify; and finally monoi oil, sweet almond oil, and organic apricot and coconut oils soften and moisturise. I rinse well with warm water and follow with other treats like the Lazy Spa Self Absorbed Super Rich Body Butter, €8.

Makes my skin feel soft like buttah — at least that’s what he says!

Cult product

Mmmmmm! Carmex new moisturising mint lip balm, €3.98, is perfect for getting your lips in mint condition — geddit! The award-winning Carmex was actually invented by Alfred Woelbing waaaay back in the Thirties and has been a staple of many make-up artists and celebrities worldwide since.

I have friends who are, like, properly addicted to this stuff and always have some on them. Anyhoo, the newest balm is mint-flavoured with 100 per cent natural peppermint oil and has an SPF15.

So it protects and leaves lips soft, soothed and moisturised with a deliciously refreshing natural minty taste and smell.

Triona's most wanted

I trained to be a beauty therapist with the First Lady of Beauty in Ireland, Bronwyn Conroy. I’m so glad I did, as it has led me to where I am today. The beauty biz is a great industry — you could be a therapist, a make-up artist like Jemma Kidd — a beauty writer like me, a cosmetics consultant — I could go on.

So, if you fancy a career in beauty, put this date in your diary and go to the Bronwyn Conroy Beauty School open day on Saturday, May 7, from 12 to 4pm. Those who enroll on any of the courses on the open day will be able to avail of a 10 per cent discount on the course fee. You’ll be able to tour the school and see the students working.
