Yellow eyes are big news, but it's not so mellow yellow - bright, bold and perfect for summer. On the catwalks Tom Pecheux worked the trend with attitude and Elie Saab and Erdem took this summers brightest trend to new heights.

  • Go To

The red carpet version isn't as bright and bold . Sophie Ellis Bextor and Rachel Mcadams wore yellow eyes with abandon and if you have a darker skin tone this really works.

Here are the rules:

Keep it simple

Ditch the colour wheel and pledge allegiance to one shade and one shade only. A simple pop of colour all over the eyelid or a floret worked to the inner corners is all that's needed here. Let the colour do the work and the mascara add some drama.

Drench with colour

This is not a look for the faint hearted and a softly softly approach just won't wash. The shadow demands to be bold, so beware of over blending and layer for a beautiful, intense burst of colour.

Make it matte

Although satin yellow eye shadows can be incredibly pretty, when worn in blocks they become much more gold. Matte shades make the colour work without overdoing it - you have been warned!

Pucker up

While nude lips complement the trend on the catwalk, a brighter lip is needed for day to day wear. If you're a fan of MAC, try their stunning Morange in orange or the purple Violetta shade.
