The high attitude look we're calling Teenage Disco has been seen on the catwalks of Zac Posen and Jean-pierre Braganza, but as always Vivienne Westwood stole the show when her Red label turned the dial labelled Vicki Pollard all the way up to a 10. Gold brows, blue iridescent skin, graffiti lips. All that's missing is a mix-tape for your Sony Walkman.

Here are some pointers:

Keep it light

Although the colour is full on, the base shouldn't be too heavy.

Shadows are expertly layered and blended to create a look where colours fade into each other. As a rule, the lighter the base, the bigger and bolder those Swatch Watch pink lips will look.

Keep it bright

Using too much colour on the eyes is not possible. Bag the brashest palettes and blend down from full colour to none. Kolhs in blue and shadows in yellow and can be teamed with greens and smudged reds. The look is daring, unapologetic and dramatically overdone.

Pucker up

Like the eyes, lips should be dripping with colour. Gloss and liner can be layered over lipstick for a more exaggerated finish and extra definition can be added with a little glitter. If all that sounds like too much work, try a metallic frosted shade as the building block and build the lip colours slowly.

Skin should sparkle

The Pop Tart theme continues with the brilliant return of body glitter. Skin should look flawless, so keep foundation true to your natural skintone and add some unconventional highlights with glitter pots and metallic pigments. A light sprinkling along cheekbones is a good start though the truly brave can be as creative as they wish.

If in doubt, don't bother

It's bold, it's brash and it's witty, but if you're in any doubt at all it's best to give this a wide berth. Reducing the intensity or the amount of colour just doesn't work and the real clue is in the name.

Attempting the Teenage Disco look if you are over 25 will leave you looking like Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane .... it's not fair but you can't say we didn't warn you.
