Trendwatch: Pastel eyes for spring
Derek Lam did barely there blues for SS11 and Prada went one better with a pared down purple. Finally, the trend was confirmed with a surprisingly un-shocking sighting of soft and subtle soda styling on the eyes of Katy Perry.
On a good day pretty pastels make the promise of perky peepers possible. On a bad day it can clash with eyes and it can colour block badly. Although there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to wearing this, the following tips might help you avoid looking like appearing in The Only Way is Essex is your one true ambition:
Step 1: Light, natural shades work well for daywear. Combine layers of cool pinks or deeper smokey tones for evening.
Step 2: Pick a pastel to suit the pupils. Blue eyes suit lilacs and iced blues. Green eyes should head for heather and if your eyes are brown try lavender, then pink or try a pinch of peach.
Step 3: Application is important so build gradually and blend well. Bobbi Brown's head of artistry Paul Herrington recommends starting with light pastels for the base, blending toward the brow bone and adding a darker shade which layers toward the corners of the eye.
Step 4:Twist the look. Layering shimmery or metallic shades will add some definition, or if you need to darken, avoid colour blocking by blending colour gradually.
