Trendwatch: Grown Up Grunge
This season's trend for all things grunge pays homage to an original muse in Courtney Love. Grown up grunge is all about rusty eyelids, beefed up brows and bedhead braids.
Re-invented with Tom Pechex's pared back creations for Marni, the new take on an old look was showcased at Topshop Unique, Julien Macdonald and Ann-Sofie Back.
Eye's are soft, streamlined, smudgy even. Forget those deep, goth like hues and instead make way for an altogether softer palette of pinks and purples. Percussion is out and melting shadow onto lids with finger tips is in and whatever you do don't be too precious. This look is almost slept in. Allow generous amounts of smudge and shadow under the eyes.
Bolder brows are better brows
Big, bold and perfectly shaped - brows frame the face taking centre stage.Think full, feathered and completely unapologetic. Brow density can be faked by spooling the brows upwards and depth can be added with plenty of brow powder.
The essence of grown up grunge is that the look is top-heavy. In effect this means keeping lips light and natural with just a hint of nude colouring. Lip shades should be matte rather than glossy and for application tapping with a dry finger rather than a brush will help you get that light, ethereal finish.
Dewy, light and natural, the base should be applied with the lightest hand or even not at all. Forget full coverage formulas and instead opt only for a touch of concealer where needed and shade with a blush.
Light pinks applied high on the cheekbones will give you a look that screams I'm with the band.
