Trendwatch: Colour blocking make-up
Pastels give way to colour blocked brights as eyes go modern for summer. Diane von Furstenberg did shimmery shades, Dior did brilliant blues and Loewe worked the look with lashings of ripe orange. Perfect for making the ultimate statement. Think bold brights, a strong finish and peacock like displays of shameless colour.
Here are the rules:
Keep it in the family
As tempting as mixing and matching may be, team shades that complement each other. Stick to colours in the same spectrum and layer it heavy for brilliantly bright blinkers.
Leave the blending brush at home and swap soft and smokey for sharp edges and harsh lines. Forget trying to create depth and dimension - focus on saturated colour. Pat powdered shadows with a flat brush and layer in some cream shadow with fingers.
Balance the look
Unless you want some serious bag lady styling, balance the look with low-key skin, lashes and lips. Leave the blusher and bronzer at the door and work strong colours that work with your skin tone.
The look is daring but the margin between success and Helena Bonham Carter is wafer thin. As impeccably now as colour blocking may be, don't mix colour blocked clothes with colour blocked eyes, and unless you're Katy Perry don't wear this one to a wedding.
