Treats to beat the heat

SOMETIMES it seems as if everyone is on holiday. Everyone, that is, except us. But someone has to keep things going in the office, and if we're going to be stuck indoors while everyone else is out, we're going to treat ourselves.
We thought about it, and thought about it some more, and we reckon that the best way to cheer ourselves up is to update our beauty cabinet. Here are six strategically chosen summer treats.
Weleda Almond Soothing Facial oil, €17.95 (available from independent health stores and pharmacies nationwide)
It's made from natural ingredients, and feels light and calming on the skin. A few drops applied to the end of hair will leave it looking shiny and well-moisturised, and even lashes can benefit from its nourishing formula as it double-jobs as an eye make-up remover. Good value.
Clinique Almost Bronzer, €28
Cute packaging masks an impressive product that is perfect for working the sunkissed look. It's dual-toned, with one shade slightly lighter than the other. Both colours, which are lovely and sheer, contain gold flecks.
This is a restrained offering though, so it's subtle rather than glittery. I think you get better results when you use your own brush, however. It also contains SPF 15 which is a bonus, rather than a licence to skip all-over protection.
Lancome Advanced Genifique Serum, €73
The original formula became a cult classic almost as soon as it was launched four years ago. This latest edition is set to be another hit for the brand, thanks to 40pc more active ingredients, not to mention a self-loaded dropper so the that user will always apply the correct amount. Magic!
Essie Funny Face, €9.99
They were last summer's greatest hit and now neons are back – with a bang. Break yourself gently into the trend by coating your nails in this vibrant fuchsia shade (named, surely, in homage to the iconic Audrey Hepburn), which is just perfect for a pedi.
Don't skimp, though, you'll need a minimum of two coats (the initial one can be a little streaky) as well as a base. But the finish is worth it. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
Shiseido Zen Sun, €63
This is a real spritz of sunshine, thanks to a fabulous mix of bergamot, yummy mango and delicate cherry blossom, underpinned by a hint of warming musk. I think I might just even use it as a type of aromatherapy to pep up my flagging spirits on rainy days.
Shu Uemura Unlimited Supreme MattE Lipstick in Shade 375, €22.50
Fancy a bright pop of colour this summer? Then look no further than this intense shade with its silky soft finish. Yes, it's dramatic, but team it with a fresh, barely-there look on your complexion and you'll be bang up-to-date, and seriously glamorous.
