Each week Independent Woman investigates what's new and cutting edge in the battle to remain young and beautiful. This week, in a belated bid to make our bushy brows a bit more beautiful, we payed a visit to brow artist Lorna Farrelly for some Hollywood style treatment.

What is it?

A bespoke brow service designed to balance facial features. Working on the idea that symmetrical brows are the key to a perfectly shaped face, Lorna plucks, threads, shades and shapes brows to mirror-like accuracy. Forget the tweezers, this is brow art!

What's the process?

Brows are given a thorough evaluation to spot gaps, uneven areas and problem features and the face shape is examined to determine the quintessential curve. Personal style and lifestyle is also taken into account before the design is determined and the brows are given the treatment. After being sanitised, brows are gently threaded and the finer hairs are plucked away with tweezers. To get the max by way of brow harmony, lashes and brows are then tinted with a bespoke dye made of up to 11 different shades.

Why all the fuss?

Probably something to do with the care and attention given. The treatment gives a subtle but noticeable lift to the face and Lorna has developed some very impressive techniques. As the tinting process is unique, the finish can be altered to complement different skin tones and hair colours.

Who's it for?

If you're prone to taking too much away this is a must. Perfect celebrity brows!

Did it hurt?

Although the threading makes the eyes water slightly, the treatment is done at the hands of a specialist and once it starts the whole process is done at lightning speed.

No real ouch .... but any redness?

No, skin is treated to plenty of mineral foundation after the treatment so downtime is minimal and if you do have to go back to work nobody need ever know where you spent your lunch hour!

How long does it take?

The whole process takes around 30 minutes including a brow consultation which takes your personal style and lifestyle into account.

The best bit?

The result. Having visited many 'brow experts' over the years, I wasn't expecting miracles. By the time of the big reveal I was left with brows which which were a compliment rather than an add on extra.

The symmetry concept works wonders.

Any downsides?

Be careful what you wish for! Despite not expecting too much I was so impressed with my fuller darker brows that I vowed to become a regular visitor. As the brows need to be redone after about two weeks this could become quite an expensive part of my routine.

How much is it?

A session with Lorna costs €45 and available at Wilde Salon, 93 Morehampton Road, Donnybrook, Dublin 4. Call 01 6689342 to book a treatment.
